Adam James Sorensen keerde terug naar Chicago en maakte vervolgens een prachtig melancholieke plaat samen met o.a. producer Evan Brubaker en met muzikanten als Mark Spencer (o.a. Son Volt), Eyvind Kang (Bill Frisell, Beck) en singer songwriter Rachel Harrington (geen onbekende op de 'Rambles') Volgens recensist Antoine Legat is de plaat 'balsem voor de gewonde ziel' en Americana UK noemde de plaat 'defiantly mellow'.
‘Midwest' is een wegdroom CD met alleen maar subtiele en droevige liedjes. Adam James' stem is gevoelig, somber monotoon. Ik werd zonder meer gegrepen door de muziek. Wie volgt? Aldus Fred Schmale (Real Roots Café)

Returning to his native home, Chicago, was the catalyst for his solo debut, MIDWEST. Evoking a dark melancholic undercurrent, MIDWEST offers the songwriter's observations with a reflective and honest fragility.
